Chapter – 5
Inequities built up as a hierarchy by the system
As regions, countries, people, sciences, knowledge and wealth expand the hierarchical system is becoming taller and taller. In the primitive societies the hierarchical systems are absent.
Why inequities became inevitable
By the time of kings and emperors hierarchical systems grew taller. The,……. ? The employees of the emperors, soldiers and military leaders, people who collect taxes, and dig canals and water bodies so on and so forth let to an increase in the hierarchy. Patwari system and Police Patel system were formed to rule the people in the rural areas.
In today’s world there were hundreds of departments like – central government, state government, zilla parishad, mandal parishad, gram panchayat, revenue department etc. Departments of science increase in number. The courses in the universities increased. The employment system, system of justice, the system of press increased. Knowledge and sciences developed a lot so it became impossible for single individuals to know every thing. That is why a system of hierarchy was developed to cope with this proliferation of knowledge. In course of history citizens, people’s representatives, employees, senior officials, ministers, chief ministers, Prime Minister Etc. along with military system, security system, economic system and educational system tended to form tall hierarchies.
In this process inequities grew in the society. These inequities pertain to age, knowledge, caste, gender, poor– rich, skills, capacities, tastes, outlooks, development, culture etc. In order to perpetuate all these social institutions, structures, systems, and government departments developed as hierarchies. Social leadership is nothing but leading these hierarchical systems and helping in the advancement of the society for the benefit of the people.
It is a matter of great respect to influence a large group in the society and leading it. To mingle with people, to work together with them, and to inspire others are leadership qualities in the political and social areas. Generally, wherever the leaders go they take along with them a group of people. It is taboo to go alone. It leads to the misunderstanding that a person is not a capable leader if he goes any where alone.
For the sake of the social requirements it is important to have a hierarchical system. But it also leads to inferiority complex.
A system of hierarchy formed for the social requirements is becoming a cause of concern because it leads to inferiority complex. But when relations of affection and love form inferiority doesn’t emerge.
These are all the problems created by the iniquities
In a hierarchical system inferiority is being created because of display of power, egoism instead of love and affection. The same kind of inferiority is being created amongst the caste, rich and poor countries, various regions and ultimately between men and women. The complex of inferiority could be resolved when various structures, systems and institutions with an eye on the democratization involving love and affection.
In a family a system of hierarchy with regards, duties and rights is continuing between the members of the family.
Even in a school a system of hierarchy is continuing with headmaster, educational officer, teachers and students. Even amongst the students the grade in which they are, their intelligence leads to the creation of hierarchical system.
In institutions, government and parties a system of hierarchy involving cadre, clerk, superintendent, manager, officer and leader is continuing. Like this there seeds of inferiority complex within the system itself.
Societies and countries where iniquities are mellowed
In countries like
If a girl and boy like each other, they marry. If they don’t like each other they take divorce. The children born of that wedlock are put in hostels. If mother and father take divorce those children are being brought up by any one of them. But a system where in brothers, sisters and parents live together is not existing there. The system of dowry is also not there. If they don’t like each other they take divorce. But won’t cling to family life in the name of sentiments. For this reason there won’t be inferiority complex amongst the children of those countries like in the countries where there is a hierarchical system. Abusing children there is a crime. Even if parents physically punish their children that is as much punishable as they abuse by others.
Parents provide finances for the education of their children up to the age of 18. Some children tend to study while working part-time. But after the age of 18 they have to fetch for themselves for their education. There won’t be any rights of heredity or conflicts between the children as to the properties or the income of the parents. In this way the hierarchical system of the family disappeared and new kind of family system which allows human beings to grow freely developed. 20 percent of the people in
Even the social system reduced the authority of the hierarchical system in the same way. The citizen could directly elect his representatives and dictate his will on the government. There is no power to the leaders of the government, to decide who should make decisions on behalf of the citizens, like in the case of a family where parents, grand parents take decisions on behalf of the children. All the citizens who are above the age of 18 elect the government directly through universal suffrage. In the institutions the hierarchical system increased the employment security. There is a close relationship between the hierarchical system and employment security. With the end of the hierarchical system followed by the end of employment security democratization became the norm. Like in a family wherein wife and husband divorce, if they don’t like each other, even the employees join another company if they don’t like the company they work for. These moments continue. That is why the hierarchical system of the past is no more existent as it was in the past.
